horsing around...

hello friends!
well, here it is....
my newest painting.
see what can happen if i focus more on
ART
and less on blogging.
i missed you!
art happens!
and when art is happening, well, i have to go with it.........
cuz it's not always there.
this horse painting is big. 3'x4'
here it is hanging above my couch to show scale.....

oh, my...
here is another horse painting i did this week.....

i sure hope you like these horsey paintings.
cuz, i am liking them.
i can't say that about a lot of my paintings and i must admit these recent paintings need some tweaking,
but i was excited to show them off right now, before the paint is even dry.
i feel like my bloggy is a safe place to share part of myself.
and my
ART
is part of me.........

i thought i'd show you some more of this room in my house.........
you know, since i had the camera out.
and since i am sharing and all...

i have a pretty neutral palette in here,
with lots of textures and natural elements.
that is an old Christmas tree stand holding those drieds.

a cement bowl i made with a leaf mold.

gotta have fluffy pillows!

an old hospital cart as a side table.

driftwood topped with a discarded stem braid
from a deceased ficus tree.

wet paint...

i love this little lamb,
he reminds me of my beloved bichon frise who lived for 17 1/2 years.

i sure hope you enjoyed seeing my latest paintings and little snippets of my home.......
things will soon be changing in the house with the holidays coming.
i start some Christmas decorating for one of my clients next week,
in her 10,000 sq. foot home (yikes!).
this will be my seventh year decorating for her
and i still get pretty darn nervous about it.
really nervous...truth be told.
here is wishing you a fabulous weekend.....
i hope you can take the time to find some inspiration in your life........
and thanks so much for visiting me!!

Erin. I have a list.

The eyes on the horse are hauntingly beautiful.

The lashes are so realistic I wait for them to flutter.

I feel like I could touch the mane. Truly a gifted work of appling those layers in threads like hair.

The hospital card is fun,

Your use of elements of nature...wonderful

The textures on the sofa....the quilt, the popcorn blanket...lovely.

The enamel top table is a great choice.

Your camera work...:) :)

That row of three pillows is perfectly shot. Amazing use of repetition.

Have I covered everything I love about this post?

There aren't enough adjectives in my vocabulary to adequately describe your beautiful paintings. I love the composition of them. Your photos are similar, such great angles! I KNEW that was a tree stand before I read it. I've never seen one like that before. Well, how long do you want me to go on? Really. You just have a gift!

Sigh. I hope that someday you can see how brilliant your paintings are. (But maybe not before I get to buy up a bunch of them, ha ha.) Seriously, Erin, they are fabulous. I have collected art for many years. I am very selective. I really love and want some of your work. I will be patient... Now, stop reading this and get back to painting! :) xo – g

Hi Erin, your paintings are absolutely gorgeous and fit so perfectly in your home. I love all the natural elements and the soothing tones you decorate with. I don't know why are nervous about decorating someone's home. If this is the 7th year, you are obviously doing something so very right! Best wishes, Tammy

Good gracious golly woman, if you can paint that well, stop blogging and get to it ! Still, between you and Jerry Flanders...I feel less adequate after reading both your blogs. I may have to just not read how talented you are for a while. A sabbatical. take care, Gina

I love your neutral look and how the textures you add stand out. Thanks for the peek and I sure hope we get to see this 10,000 sq ft house! Decorated! I feel small. Ann

ERIN!!!! WAIT, I am too excited to type here.......O.K., whew, let me catch my breath! YOU VISITED ME LAST NIGHT and left me the sweetest message and I want to thank you for coming by; however, I am swept away and I almost feel as if it was a miracle reason that you came to me so I could find you.....your world is stunning, magical, perfectly WHITE as I love, but the PIÈCE DE RESISTANCE is YOUR HORSE MOTIF!!! I am crazy and madly head over heels in love with horses, especially white ones! teehee! Before I continued to read on, I thought that horsey above your sofa was A PHOTOGRAPH! Yikes, there are some awesome artists out there, and you are ONE OF THEM! Your décor is magnificent and you really have a great talent here. Thank you so much for visiting me and you will be seeing me around!

Do come again; I post regularly every week. Ciao and thank you so much! Anita

Your paintings are so beautiful, Erin. I would love to see the steps in your process. Gorgeous, gorgeous work! And your home is also lovely!

You asked me if I listen to music. I was a serious classical music student (clarinet) growing up and had the opportunity to audition for a full scholarship @ the Curtis Institute of Music when I was 17 - but I didn't go. After much thought I decided that I didn't want a career in music. And although I prefer to listen to the quiet at home, going to a live performance of most any type of music is pure joy.

Wishing you a lovely Sunday,
Zuzu

Even though I told you I like the first horse painting best---seeing them both today --- the second one really speaks to me too. I'm not proud of this, but I do like animals better than most people. They are closer to God than we are. And your horses tap into the tender and deep place in my heart that people can't get to.

Love the series with the begonias---your photos really celebrate their delicacy.

I mentioned to you I collect quotes, here's one that seems to fit after enjoying your recent posts:

"The soul should always stand ajar, ready to welcome the ecstatic experience."
--Emily Dickinson

Erin, to borrow from the lyrics from one of the songs on your blog.... " thanks for changing the world "... one brushstroke and one camera click at a time.
