forced forsythia

i have brought a little bit of spring into my bay window by
 forcing forsythia
(try saying that five times fast!)

a jump start on
 spring blooms.
so easy to do!

i cut branches of forsythia from my garden...
only 5 days ago!
i kid you not.
and they are already blooming!

just plopped the branches into a glass vase of water...
stuffed plastic grocery bags around the vase to keep it centered in this cement urn...
and topped it with pretty deer moss.

like a breath of
 fresh
 spring air.

so easy!
and ever so
rewarding!

do you "force" spring blooms too?

  1. I wish I had the blooms to even try this! We still have a ton of snow that needs to melt, but oh the glory of this color! Beautiful job, erin! Anita

  2. Pretty - Love it sitting between the swans. When the forsythia blooms, you know Spring is not far behind. I need to check the neighborhood bush to see if it has buds yet.

  4. That is beautiful. My daughter did something similar with tulips in glass vases with just glass orbs and water in the bottom sitting on a window sill. Really brings some nice spring into the room.

  6. Dear Erin - what a lovely sight. Thank you for the idea...I am going to cut some forsythia and pussy willows...both look lovely together. Take care and have a great day.

  7. Oh, that's just so pretty, Erin! I went for a walk with our granddaughter yesterday and looked for pussy willows, but it's a bit too early for them up north. I may have to try forcing apple blossoms when the time is right.

  8. Hi Erin,

How sweet of you to leave such a kind note... I thought it would be fun to attempt a wool painting.
    blessings to you,

  9. If only. But I really can't complain since we have something blooming most of the year. Years ago I had 15 forsythia bushes in my yard in Massachusetts! I loved them.

  10. So pretty! No forcing over here, just enjoying yours! AND I am on a mission to hit up all the beautiful gardens around here while the blooms are still around! Spring sprung early here! I just went to some gardens that were already in full bloom!

    Happy Spring Erin!
