escape to the garden......

this continues to be my all time favorite privately owned gardens...and i have seen a few, for sure...
worth taking another gander....



with most of the country facing a huge winter storm,
i thought it would be fun to escape to one of the most beautiful, privately owned gardens i have ever seen.
enjoy......


i viewed this gorgeous estate, two springs ago on a garden tour.
located on the side of a hill in Bellemeade, just outside of Nashville......
this garden highlights some of my very favorite plants.
boxwood, climbing roses and lavender.
(in my dream garden, i would have liked to see lots of hydrangea here too....not sure why it was not included?)

o.k....can you believe, it's not really lavender?!?!
i fell in LOVE with their use of catmint (nepeta).
like me, the owner loves lavender (who doesn't). catmint is a very good substitute, that grows well here, in our humid and rather stagnant air.
of course the lavender fragrance isn't there. boo hoo

    I really cannot imagine having such gardens...maybe in heaven I will. tee hee

    Those new dawn climbing roses woo me.

    I need to know what they feed their roses! How beautiful!! :) I have "Walker's Low" catmint along my brick path to the deck and I just love it! It's not fussy, does well in any kind of temp, and blooms from spring to fall. I'm still trying to get the hang of growing lavender... :) Thanks for the wonderful little mini-vacation today, Erin! :)

    Getting cold again. I left the house around 3 today and it was 55, a little over an hour later it was 38!

    What is wrong with me? As beautiful as that is my first thought is how much work to take care of it. my bad

    I've lived with a postage stamp yard for far too long I guess.

    Oh precious friend, GREEN and WHITE are my favorite colors for a garden. I am not a color snob, but simplicity and GREEN are my favorites and this garden is superb. DO you believe that today it will be MINUS 30 in The Twin Cities? I cannot go out, but I mUST!!!! THANK YOU FOR THIS BEAUTIFUL TOUR DEAR ONE! Anita

    It IS a beautiful property! I ♥'d the view BEYOND the pool...

    Surely there must be a full-time gardener! The roses WERE spectacular - and I'm going to try my hand at catnip. I'm not sure how it will do in NE Indiana.

    The marble-topped table is so elegant! The whole tour was a nice respite from the storm and snow that happened here last evening.

    What a lovely tour and how all that green is a feast for the eyes. I have New Dawn roses and catmint. I plant purple clematis to climb up the New Dawn branches and catmint around the bare bottoms. It is a lovely combination. Only one problem with catnip ~ it attracts a lot of neighborhood cats which end up fighting with my cats and my Charley cat got pretty beat up a few months ago and was really sick. Even so, I can't bring myself to part with my catnip which has become one of my favorites because I can't grow lavender very well in my climate either. Thanks for sharing.

    Oh what a great post. We live right out of Nashville also. It is so great to meet other local bloggers!This home is awesome. Belle Meade has some gorgeous homes and gardens.I am in Franklin at least once a week since we have several retail businesses that sell our products there and I tell you there are some awesome homes and beautiful gardens there as well!

    What a jaw dropping garden indeed! Oh to wander around those grounds every day and just breathe in all the nature! I bet you see something different everyday. Sigh.....thank you for that piece of Heaven to escape from all this snow!! You be safe too!

    Good morning dearest Erin! Yep, 30 BELOW!!! The children could not go outside for their recess, leaving them to stay in the classroom and going BONKERS! Which also resulted in my not getting any work done! This cold snap is traveling east, and I think that New England, my old home, got SOCKED with so much snow! HOW ARE YOU? Missouri, Oklahoma and other states are really hit hard. TAKE GOOD CARE DEAREST, and keep dreaming of that SOUTHERN GARDEN! I know I am!!!

    Oh how I loved seeing this post again, Erin! :) Now that I've got a 'New Dawn' rose planted on my own arbor, I'm anxiously awaiting for it to eventually look like this one. lol Still loving my catmint, too. It's such an easy care plant! :)

    Well, my place will never look like that, but one can still dream! I discovered Nepeta a few years back and am thrilled with it, since I have killed every lavender plant I ever met. Another great substitute for Lavender is Mexican sage. In fact, I think it prettier than Lavender, but alas, it has no scent either.

    Ah Erin - I am so happy you reposted this - it is jaw dropping beautiful for sure. Such a great idea about Nepeta. I am always struggling to grow lavender...so will give this a real try. Thanks for the lovely escape I sure enjoyed it.

    This will help you to really get a feel for it. Nowadays, due to the internet and 'virtual tours', people are tempted to make an offer, simply by what they see on a realtor's website. This is a big mistake, as you only get to see the positive aspects of the home.

    Once you have opened your coffee, it is important that you store it properly. Conditions that are too hot or too cold could take away its flavor. Store coffee in a container that can be sealed tightly and keep it in a room that has room temperature. Keep it away from the stove!
