just right for the pickin.
the soft, white, billowy carpets of gently drifting land is quite magical this time of year.
the scent of the cotton gin permeates the hot air.
the humble farm fields remind me of simpler times and from where we come.
all the cotton stirs up lovely memories of
my dad playing his folk guitar and singing
the old tune...
"Cotton Fields"

on returning, i can't help but notice the sun lower in the sky and shadows changing in the yard. the light is different and the days shorter.
summer ends this week........
hello
autumn.
so looking forward to your cooler self.
all the cotton, has reminded me of one of my all time favorite movies, starring Sally Field,
"Places in the Heart".
a must see!!
Reminds me of riving through southern Arkansas when I was stationed there in the early 70s. Love this series!
ReplyDeleteI'm really touched by this post. It's a little window into a different childhood than mine (outback Australia). That's what I love about blogging!! x
ReplyDeleteI love to see cotton fields in the country! I want some cotton so bad. I want to plant me a small field next year ... or try!

I still weep, ugly buffalo tears every single time at the end of that movie when you see the ones who have passed on all sharing communion sitting side by side in the pew.
ReplyDeleteEVERY single time!
In my top 50 movies for sure. Ah heck now I want to see it again and I think DD has it in NY.
Your photos are sublime. I think we have to talk prints for me soon? What do you think?

As usual your photos are amazing. I have actually never seen a field of cotton in person. I think I would love it. I definitely get why you brought some home. I have a cotton bole "garland". I know there isn't really such a thing, but I love it. It makes for good Fall and Winter decorating. I'll have to add the movie to my Netflix queue.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Karen
