it's no secret. i love, LOVE the water.

i LOVE the sand.

i can't get enough of it.

i can spend ALL day at the beach.

i love it so much.

scenes of the beach often make their way into my paintings.

and my favorite dreams.

i vacation at the beach every year.

beautiful pristine beaches in the gulf of mexico.

ah yes,

the GULF OF MEXICO.

that is why...

i am CRYING.

i am MOURNING.

i am ANGRY.

i am SCARED.

i am HELPLESS.

take a good, long, hard look at these beautiful images

from the gulf of mexico.

for it may be the last time we see them.

BP OIL

has

POLLUTED this body of water

beyond

anything we have

ever

seen

before.

it will NEVER be the same.

i am SICK over this.

  3. I am furious too. And there are outrigs in many other places in our oceans. We all need to pray that God shows someone how to remedy this . I am a beach-summer girl myself, take care Erin ! Gina

  4. My heart is crushed.

Here, we drive through the areas lost to the Hayman fire in 2002. 138,114 acres. Because the wind blew from the southwest, our property was not harmed, but the thing that really saddens me is that the fire was arson - started by a federal forestry officer.

How anyone could ever take nature for granted, ruin it out of stupidity or greed, is beyond me. I am sad with you, waterbaby.

  5. Erin.

No one could say it better than that. I was listening to Bill Maher last night trying to express his feelings about it and failing to. I think that is the key. When there are no words to express something, only tears and fear then you know it is truly a great loss..be it hurricanes, floods, wars, death and tar balls.

Again, we've (USA) mishandled this so poorly. I'm so sad too but I'm also so angry. Our dependence on fossil fuels is not just the fault of corporations and government, we must look to ourselves and demand the changes that could have made decades ago.

Sad waterbaby....you have had so many sad things lately. It is hard right now to see sunny skies, but they always do come again. They will come at a price, but they will come.

Till then, there are so many who do care about this and who care about you dear girl. Maybe paintings of these feelings will help soothe the wounded waterbaby soul.

Sharing this and calling it to the attention of those who may not give it it's proper due, ya done good.....

  9. Yes, this is horrible. The more I watch the news, the more angry I become. And you're right, we are totally helpless. I love nature so much and to watch it being destroyed like this is difficult.

  11. You are so right to speak out your anger and sadness. I've never been to the Gulf of Mexico but I am also gutted by this dreadful disaster for our planet. I'm just hoping that natures will be stronger than we think and help this beautiful region recover eventually.

  12. Be optimistic....be hopeful...be helpful. It will all work itself out. It will. Says the girl who looks at the ocean each morning. The ocean is BIG...really BIG>

  13. It's hardest for me to see the birds ... if I wasn't starting to teach next week for 10 weeks of summer workshops I think I would be hitching a ride to help clean some feathers. I worked after an oil spill in california feeding fish at the marine sanctuary to Western Grebes ... it was very rewarding. ( and stinky! My Converse smelled like rotten fish! :) )

Those poor babies. I am going to try to be optimistic like Linda said, plus say some prayers and contribute to some wildlife organizations that can do more than I can from the West Coast.

    Blessings

  18. Hi there, I am very impressed by the wonderfull pictures you take. They all make me long to be outside taking in the fresh air. Although it is on the other side of the globe for me I want you to know that the pollution in the Gulf is the talk of the day here too, for weeks now. We realize that the way we are exploiting nature has to blow up in our faces someday... Thanks for bringing thesse wonderfull pics to my home! Keep it up! 22. Oh Erin,
It's so hard for me to wrap my head around this tragedy. I feel that I've been sheltered a bit for the fact that I have watched so little tv since this has happened. I'm sure it is on 24/7....and making everyone feel so helpless with every passing day. Mother nature will be suffering from this for a very long time.
I pray that they figure things out soon...very soon!
    Take care friend,
    Carole

  25. I am sad with you. I'm visiting my father on the Florida gulf coast. The danger gradually creeps closer to our beautiful beach and we wait and worry. This is tragic for the water, for the wildlife and for the masses of people who depend on this water to live.
