Boxes, Orbs and Urns

looking out the kitchen window to a very frigid day...with a light coating of snow, i've been chatting with a blogging friend (hi Karen!) about after holiday blahs and inspiration......

i often struggle with the pull of wanting to be creative,

but not being able to GET STARTED.

what i do know for sure, is that i MUST have ...

my DUCKS IN A ROW.

i have put away ALL traces of the holidays to reveal areas that need

New Vignettes.

Primping.

Tweaking.

Creating.

Nesting.

Homemaking.

AND I HAVE DONE JUST THAT.

getting ready...

nothing looming...

clean slate.

ducks in a row.

the fireplace mantel, for one needed new dressing.

the focal point of this room.

i settled on Boxes, Orbs and Urns.

hence the title of my post.

everything here collected in my house.

except the new mossy orbs which i made from moss and newspaper balls (you know, balls MADE out of newspaper and tape).

Styrofoam balls are pricey! why! oh why!

i've been collecting Mystery Boxes for a while now.

don't know why.

it's a mystery.

lighting is very important.

the magical glow of candles.....

and fire.

nature surrounds me...

even indoors.

EVER INSPIRING.

even the Blue Ray player is juxtaposed by driftwood and braided branches.

a beautiful specimen preserved forever.

my life in order...........

with the help of angels.

NO loose ties...

PEACE all around...

i then.........

can start to create.

  1. Great Post! I have thought about making a moss orb and did not think about using newspaper - great idea. Know what you mean about the after holiday blahs. I need to get motivated. So cold here - spent the afternoon cleaning out and shredding papers - how exciting! Just do not want to get out in this bitter cold. Looks like you about the same amount of snow we got. Have a great weekend.

  2. Beautiful Erin! I love it all... the view out your kitchen window, the fireplace, the boxes, orbs, urns and the butterfly. I need to get all my ducks in a row. Thanks for the inspiration!

  3. Your decor is so lovely and calming. We are taking down our decorations tomorrow so I am sure I will be re-feathering my nest for a fresh start.

    Have a wonderful weekend,

I have been trying to get inspired for ages... need a kick start really.... I love all those boxes... I have a few myself but seem to have lost a few over the years too... One thing I really wished i had [besides a house!! and a fireplace!!] is a mantle... such the perfect place to create moments of inspiration as you have.... Love your photo as usual.. I think I am that little odd duck off to the side.. hehe... xxx Julie

  5. You made me laugh out loud!!! So funny. I'm very happy to be your blogging friend. My Christmas is not yet put away. Almost. My daughter has not yet returned to college (Sunday). But, the creative juices are starting to percolate. It helps to work in a beautiful gift shop with lots of fun accessories. I love your mantle! I especially like the mystery boxes. Very fun! I have been mulling over your assignment idea. Thanks again!
