fox

i woke up early saturday mornin....
coffee and camera in hand....
headed out to the back porch...
my favorite place to be,
before the heat of the day sets in....
 joyfully snapping away,
 at the queen annes lace,
plucked from the side of the road yesterday.
it had rained the night before..
 and i started to notice...
 the sparkly drippy drips...
hanging from the chairs.
 a photo-op,
 of the sparkly kind....
as i focused on the drips...
 something caught my eye...
in the back...
by the old veggie garden...
i was not the only early riser this morn.
 FOX.
see him there.
i had seen him around for years...
but never in my yard.
(funny how we say "MY yard"...as if it is really OURS.)
i knew he must be after our family of rabbits...
Peter, his wifey,
or worse their 3 baby's...
or
 our family of chip monks...
or
 our birds.
(funny how we say "our"....as if they truly are OURS.)
i quickly shooed him away, with camera in hand, snapping his departure...
several birds dove and squawked at him  as he cockily ran...
he was too close for comfort
for
 us
 all.

 and made us feel
wildly awake
and
vulnerable.
which
we
 are.

  1. What a treat for the eyes this was Erin! Oooooh, your surrounding are sooooooo beautiful! I love queens Anns lace, but have never been able to get it to grown here. You are quite good with your camera I must say... Love the drips on the chair and the FOX! Oh my... I hope he finds somewhere else to visit.
You know, I could stay here for hours... It is such a comfort to view all this beauty... There are no words to really express how I feel about your paintings. They melt my heart.
Wishing you a joyful week ahead.
    Blessings,
    Penny

  2. The fox is indeed a cool camera catch Erin. I showed it to my Joe who sees them a lot while he works but he has never taken a picture of one. Your lace images are fabulous too.

  4. such wonderful photos, Erin. Love how you captured him "in multiples"! I love seeing foxes, owls, other "predators", but I just tell them to go do their thing somewhere that I don't know about it! your yard is so pretty!

  5. As always, you have done a beautiful job of photographing your surroundings. Great shot of the fox running! Saw a lot of queen anne's lace when traveling few weeks ago, but not a good place to stop to photograph and/or pick some to bring home. I remember seeing so much of it when growing up - guess cause I was in more rural areas than now. No fox in my neighborhood thank goodness, but think the chipmunk population has thinned out due to the neighborhood cats. :(
    Enjoy your evening.

  6. YOWZA- Great shots! Wild creatures are so beautiful but certain predators do give one a sense of vulnerability, that we in this modern world have forgotten..When we first moved to this house 19 years ago we were on the edge of the desert with very little else around and frequently turned the drive into the development in the evening only to catch the eyes of coyotes strolling the streets searching for the neighborhood pets. Very unnerving...

Great shot of fox running...You go girl!

  8. You had me at Queen Anne's lace...one of my favorite wild flowers. I adored making headdresses and bouquets from QAs and didn't care how many of the little black ants that like to sit on them get on me. LOL Oh to be that childlike again. Lovely post and say hello to your fox.

  9. It's always a little exciting to see wild critters around our homes. We have quite a few now that we're out in the boonies. We have coyotes regularly and have seen tracks of mountain lions. I'm very glad I've never seen them in person. Did you see my three rattlesnakes on Facebook? That was creepy. I'm just thankful that my little dog has moved to the Midwest with my daughter. He's much safer. Great pictures as usual, Erin. I love the multiples. Not sure how you did that, but very cool.

  10. We do not have foxes around here but coyotes. Sometimes they stand in the field on the other side of our fence(20 yards away) and cry at night...sounds like a baby in a horror movie. Your yard is so beautiful. Queen Ann's lace is a favorite of mine.

  11. Although beautiful, I don't care for foxes because they prey on cats, rabbits etc in our neighborhood...lovely pics Erin.

  12. wow scary fox! Have you ever pressed Queen Anne's lace. I will be doing a post once ours are out. They are so delicate and fragile looking when they I would not haveare pressed. susanhemann.blogspot.com I would not have included my post, but I couldn't let you know under identity

  13. Ha! She speaks the truth! What an interesting encounter... isn't it strange to see wildlife so close, and yet they are all around us everyday.
Your backyard is beautiful, and so is your porch with the white petunias..

  15. What a beautiful moment for you, Erin. Fox are such amazing creatures (we see them in our yard, too), but it does kind of gives you a vulnerable feeling, doesn't it? Hope the bunny family are all ok. Great photos of him, though! :)

  17. Erin - thank you for the pictures of your fox - what lovely shots. You hardly ever see these fellows during daylight - you probably are right he was after something sweet to kill - it is the way of nature. I am so glad someone else loves "Queen Anne's Lace". As always I enjoy my visit.

  18. Can I take fox's side? Look at her/him - skinny, must be hungry - poor thing. Though understand you - just not YOUR rabbits, chipmunks! Harsh truth of nature ..Your pictures are such a treat for me, thank you! My favorite today is second from the top - light, airy and tickling.

  19. Love your Queen Anne's Lace, Erin! They are lovely, and you've rendered them so beautifully! They perfume the air on our country lane, and I, too, picj big boquets of them for the mudroom. I always have been partial to wildflowers. You too?
    Thanks for your visit!

  20. The Queen Anne's Lace is gorgeous! I love all the white flowers in your garden.
We have foxes here also. I hope Mr. Fox leaves the bunnies alone.

  21. Hi Erin! First, I love your garden! And your QAL photos are an absolute dream. But I had no idea that foxes would come so near a house. Good that you chased him away but I have to admit they are beautiful creatures.

Wishing you a lovely weekend, dear.

  22. Love the way you got his photo in flight. Very cool. We have been overrun with bunnies this year and I worry about their safety. Wish I could watch over them too.
