strawberry bush love

this is strawberry bush...........

also known as "hearts a bustin" (for obvious reasons).

one of my favorite fall shrubs.

the red and orange seed pods are spectacular and can not be ignored.

they just scream "look at me, look at me!"

check out that color! hello mama.

you must drink in all that intensity before the seed pods drop and winter creeps closer.

wonderful in the garden...

and fantastic in floral bouquets (i took this photo a month ago before the seed pods opened up).

love it!

autumn is so bittersweet and fleeting........

please take the time and go outside and play!

but before you do, join other outdoor wednesday bloggers at

  6. This is gorgeous! I've never seen one of these before, it's really unusual with the seed pods open. I can see where it would be great in an arrangement. Happy Outdoor Wednesday! Kathy (BTW, LOVE your header photo!)

  7. Oh what an unusual bush. I had to check and see where you were from thinking that surely you lived in Australia or somewhere in Asia. I have never seen anything like this.
Now that bottle of Alamos Malbec on your table I have seen many, many times.

  9. hello Erin,

That is a beautiful plant! Love the intensity of its coloring. I looked it up to see if it would grown in my area am happy to find out it will. I also discovered some alternate (and interesting/amusing) names for it - wahoo, bursting heart, fish wood, burning bush, hearts-a-burstin-love.

Thank you very much for sharing it with us and introducing me to a new plant!

  12. What a glorious plant! I don't think I have ever seen one before. Not only is it beautiful in its natural state, it adds dimension to the arrangement (and the Malbec looks good, too!). Will it grow in FL?

Thanks for visiting with me this morning. I miss the luscious greens of Tennessee! (and the mountains! We lived in Kingsport and Knoxville many years ago.)

  13. Erin ....You floored me with that first picture. What an amazing bush. We have nothing to compare it to here in cold New England. The arrangement you did is a stunner. I'd have my yard full of the strawberry bush if I could.
Your soooo right about getting out in the garden...which reminds me....I have to finish my coffee and get OUT there!
    Soooooooo enjoyed this post!
    xo....Carole
