dear autumn...

dear autumn,

i am so happy you are finally here...

please bring with you,

so much beauty and color,

sweet smells and inspiration,

that i will drink in all your bittersweet moments,

until so satisfied and full,

i'll coast on my drunkenness

all through a creative winter
until your sister spring calls on us again.

and if it's not too much to ask,

don't forget your cooler days and crisper nights.

we are in deep need of relief, to help heal the scars from flooding and high heat.

i welcome your changes

and

trust you will come through for us.

you are most welcome here, dear autumn.

love,

e

in them old cotton fields back home...

the road between nashville and memphis is bordered by cotton fields.
just right for the pickin.
the soft, white, billowy carpets of gently drifting land is quite magical this time of year.
the scent of the cotton gin permeates the hot air.
the humble farm fields remind me of simpler times and from where we come.
all the cotton stirs up lovely memories of
my dad playing his folk guitar and singing
the old tune...
"Cotton Fields"
by leadbelly

we had a wonderful, but too short visit with my sweet daughter and son in law.
on returning, i can't help but notice the sun lower in the sky and shadows changing in the yard. the light is different and the days shorter.
summer ends this week........
hello
autumn.
so looking forward to your cooler self.
all the cotton, has reminded me of one of my all time favorite movies, starring Sally Field,
"Places in the Heart".
a must see!!

flitting away...

this has been a record breaking HOT summer.
but the butterflies don't seem to mind,
in fact, they have been happily flitting around without a care in the world.

i'll be flitting away too this week...
off to memphis to see my daughter and son-in-law.
the last time we attempted to travel to memphis...
well, the road flooded right in front of our eyes and we had to turn back
and drive through one of the worst storms and flooding that this area has seen.
nashville is still recovering from this horrible flooding of May 2nd.
you can read about it here.
come hell or high water,
we hope to make it through this time.
later...
i'll miss you.
