grey days

our beautiful winter wonderland of snow is now a memory...

we have been left with very grey days.

all is well with my computer...big relief!

my grey painting above is inspired by my art class in which we were prompted to paint a "self portrait metaphor".

i see myself as a lone, misty tree in a wide open field.

often alone.

standing strong.

and fragile.

yielding to the wind.

reaching out.

shrouded by haze and yet very crystal clear.

peaceful, quiet, glorious grey days of winter...

spent painting and photographing...

soon it will be spring,

and my attention will turn to matters of the garden.

another love.

another passion...

snowfest 2010

is there such a thing as

"having too much FUN"?

this is day 4 of our southern snow...

more snow than we have had for 7 years.
and when we southerners get this much snow, we have to enjoy it while it's here...it brings out the kid in all of us!

i live here...
on a golf course, at the bottom of one of the best

sledding hills around!

and when it snows...
kids of all ages, hundreds of them, come from miles around, to sled and generally just a have a big old time playing in the snow! it is hard to tell from this picture, but there is a long line of sledders at the top waiting their turn to fly down the slippery slope.

our driveway is one of the main thoroughfares to the hill.
living at the bottom of this hill, when it snows, is a constant winter party.
sledding
snow boarding
snowball fights
laughing

four wheeling

tubing

eating

drinking

laughing

meeting new friends
bonding with old friends
hanging by the fire
fireworks
full moon
did i mention the laughing?
and of course our fire pit has burned almost nonstop for neighbors and friends.
nothing like a warm fire to draw people together.

my hubby and i have been outside for hours and hours this weekend taking part in all the festivities...it feels like we have been on vacation at a wonderful snow lodge. sunburned, slightly bruised and exhausted, it has been such a blast! every time we have tried to go inside, we are drawn back out with the wonderful sound of laughter from the hill.

this guy filmed himself and his boys as they flew down the hill.

it is amazing to me that more people didn't get hurt!

lovely smiles all around.

this fun 50 year old brought his childhood sled and disposition.

furry friends had a blast.

hubby makes the best bloody mary's!

jammies as a snowsuit.

my friends' happy smile!

this fella flew so fast on his saucer that his shoes fell off!

this determined one, broke his foot a couple of weeks ago on the first snow fall. this did not keep him from joining in the fun!

laundry basket for sledding?

bar on wheels.

another happy face.

snowball makers.

what a fun weekend.
lots of merrymaking and memories.
i need a nap!
